Welcome to a Man’s Search for Value. I’m a middle-aged man with a keen interest in all things finance and investing. I have previously had a short career in venture capital and I am a qualified accountant. I no longer work in the world of investing, but it is clear to me that investing is my most enduring interest. It is the main topic of all the content that I consume.
My plan is to create a focused and well-structured approach to learning that can drive my investing actions. The structure needs to be simple and achievable so I can maintain it with a high degree of consistency over time. This approach should compound over time (much like I hope my investments will). With this in mind, I am making two simple commitments:
- I will spend at least 7 hours per week developing my investing knowledge. (This can be 1 hour per day, or 6 hours one day and 1 hour another. I just need to hit a minimum of 7 hours)
- I will publish one piece of writing per month
The above might not seem like a lot, but if maintained consistently, over the course of a year I will have dedicated 364 hours (over 15 days) to learning about the topic I love and will have created 12 reference points that consolidate my learning for that month. If maintained over 10 years, this will be 3,640 hours and 120 reference points.
The purpose of this blog is to:
- Document my journey, thereby creating a reference for myself and others
- Share helpful and interesting resources with a view to meeting like-minded people with shared interests
- Create accountability for sustained learning over time
If anyone does happen to read this first post at the point of publication they’ll see the site is basic and bland. I have many ideas of what this site could become, but for now, the most important thing is to simply get started and build from there.
I’ll be back with my first full length post by 31 January 2026.
